Tricks to install Windows 11 on unsupported devices

SOLVED: This PC Can't Run Windows 11

Are you also facing this problem? In this article, I am going to tell you how to install windows 11 on unsupported PCs. Microsoft has officially announced Windows 11 and the public release will come on 5th October. Windows Insider Program allows Windows 10 users to check if their pc meets the system requirements to install windows 11(see the image below), you can also check system requirements using Microsoft's PC Health Check Tool. 

Unluckily, Many users are seeing this message on their PC in the Windows Insider program and the PC Health Check App shows an error that "This Pc can't run windows 11".

So, how we can upgrade our windows 10 to windows 11 without getting this error message?

Minimum System Requirements for Windows 11. 

Method to Install Windows 11

Step1- Check your boot mode

• Left-click on the search button in the taskbar or use a keyboard shortcut(press and hold Windows key and press 'S'.
• In the search bar search for the System Information app and open it.

• Select System Summary in the sidebar.

• In the right pane, look for the BIOS Mode item, note it down.

Step2 - Burn Windows 10 to a USB

• Download Windows 10 ISO file and download Rufus for making bootable USB.

• Open Rufus to burn windows 10 ISO to a USB drive. If your boot mode is Legacy, use an MBR partition scheme. If your boot mode is UEFI, use GPT.

Step3- Create a Hybrid Installer

• Download the latest Windows 11 ISO file.
• Once the Windows 11 ISO has been downloaded, open the USB drive where you burned Windows 10  in the File Explorer. Navigate to the sources folder inside.
• Scroll down until you see either install.wim or install.esd. Note down the extension(wim or esd).
• Rename the file install1.wim or install1.esd.

• Navigate to the location where you have saved the Windows 11 ISO and right-click it to choose Mount or Open it.
• Open the windows 11 folder and go to the sources folder.
• Find the file  -install.wim or install.esd and see the extensions matches with the one you have noted down, go to the next step.
• Copy and paste the install file to the source folder from Windows 11 ISO to Windows 10 ISO in the USB drive.
• If the extensions didn't match, Windows 10 has install.esd and Windows 11 have install.wim, you need to perform an extra step -convert wim to esd.

Convert WIM to ESD

• Copy the Windows 11 install.wim file to somewhere safe, like the desktop.
• Open a Command Prompt as an administrator. (Search for CMD in the Start Menu, right-click Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator.)
• In the Command Prompt window, enter dism /Get-WimInfo /WimFile:C:\Path\To\install.wim. Change the path to where the WIM actually is. For example E:\Downloads\OSes\install.wim. If your path has spaces, enclose the entire path in double-quotes.
• This will give you a list of editions contained in the WIM, each with its own index. Choose the edition you want and remember its index.
• Next, run dism /Export-Image /SourceImageFile:E:\Downloads\OSes\install.wim /SourceIndex:INDEX /DestinationImageFile:E:\Downloads\OSes\install.esd /Compress:recovery /CheckIntegrity. Remember to replace the SourceImageFile path with the actual path to your install.wim. Do the same for the DestinationImageFile path. Finally, replace INDEX with the index you chose above.
• That command will take a while (and use a lot of CPU), but eventually, you’ll have an ESD that you can copy to your USB drive.

Step4- Install Windows 11

    

    Option 1- Use the setup.exe to upgrade to Windows 11

• Open the bootable USB drive and click the setup.exe  file.

• Windows will pop up a window and follow the onscreen instructions to finish the update.                

    Option 2- Install Windows 11 from a USB drive

• Boot the windows system from the USB.
• Follow the setup process to finish the windows 11 installation. (If you don't know how to install windows using any of the methods addressed above then follow us for the detailed process of installing windows using both methods).
